"The relationship of the Dominican Republic with Haiti has been tarnished, especially in the last five years, for the killings and persecution of Haitians at the border. Each year thousands of them were deported by the Dominican government, who also refuses to recognize the citizenship of Dominicans of Haitian origin. This is the first paragraph of a report entitled "The Role of the Dominican Republic in response to earthquake in Haiti, "recently published by OXFAM.

Then change the tone and goes on to enumerate exhaustively the number of actions and programs with the Dominican institutions responded to the emergency. and highlights the will, quickly, the economic amount and organization support. Okay, thank you very much for the recognition, but before ... three explanations:

1. It is categorically untrue that in the past five years have been "massacres" of Haitians.

2. "Thousands" of illegal immigrants are deported and this is the right of the Dominican State. Methods are questionable and inconsistent immigration policies, but the country has no right to regulate their migration.

3. The children of Haitians born in DR are not stateless, such as Oxfam suggests, because they are Haitians by law. Dominican Republic holds the ius sanguinis (other countries) to grant citizenship. It may seem unfair or exclusionary, given the human tragedy can be painful, but it is legal.
